Large-scale purification of aphthovirus antigen was accomplished by using the hollow-fibre system "DC 2" of the Amicon Co. This was capable of concentrating 20 litres of viral suspension by 100-270 times within 12-18 h. The limiting factor was the total amount and solubility of macromolecular substances present in cell culture fluid, which were incapable of passing through the ultrafilter membrane.
