During the period 19 450 birds were submitted for PM examination from about 1400 flocks. The findings are tabulated. A total of 2654 flock diagnoses were made. The 2032 diagnoses of infectious diseases included colibacillosis (151), Eimeria tenella infection (94), omphalitis/yolk sac infection (92), inclusion body hepatitis (92), salmonellosis (89) and infectious bronchitis/nephritis (77). The 622 diagnoses of non-infectious diseases included linoleic acid deficiency (116), fatty liver and kidney syndrome (100), starve-out syndrome (92), non-specific runting (56) and chilling (48). The most prevalent combinations of multiple flock diagnoses were chilling and 'starve-out syndrome' (28 flocks), respiratory disease complex and colibacillosis (23), coccidiosis and osteodystrophy (22), omphalitis/yolk sac infection and 'starve-out syndrome' (22), colibacillosis and gangrenous dermatitis cellulitis (20), colibacillosis and omphalitis/yolk sac infection (20), runting and stunting syndrome and osteodystrophy (16), inclusion body hepatitis and colibacillosis (15), and colibacillosis and coccidiosis (14). The authors stress that bias is inherent in submissions for diagnosis.
