Chickens were given, in factorial design, diets containing no antibiotic or TM-10 or aurofac-2A, or no coccidiostat or Bifuran or Embazin. The birds were reared for 8 weeks on old or fresh litter. Bodyweights were not significantly affected by the type of litter or by the coccidiostats; they were significantly increased by TM-10 but not by Aurofac-2A. Efficiency of feed conversion was not affected by any treatment. Mortality was significantly less with fresh than with old litter, and in control groups than in the RM-10 groups and significantly lower in the Bifuran groups than in the control groups. The interactions between litter and coccidiostats and between antibiotic and coccidiostats were significant in respect of bodyweight. A study was made of 1008 broiler chickens in India reared on different litters and with different coccidiostats. The type of litter and the presence of coccidiostat produced no significant difference in the feed-efficiency or gain in weight. The mortality percentage was 2.08% with Bifuran, 4.47% with Embazin and 6.24% with the controls. No incidence of coccidiosis was observed during the study.
