The hosts, distribution and biology of 8 spp. of fleas were discussed (Pulex irritans, Ctenocephalides canis, C. felis, Archaeopsylla erinacei, Ceratophyllus gallinae, C. columbae, C. hirundinis and Nosopsyllus fasciatus). Unhygienic care of cats and dogs was a major source of C. felis and P. irritans infestation. Stray cats were a serious cause of C. felis infestation. P. irritans was found in cattle stalls, and birds' nests were a source of Ceratophyllus spp. infestation. Rats' nests were also a suspected source of flea infestation.
