In pharmacokinetic tests carried out in rabbits, sheep and cattle with fenbendazole, a new anthelmintic, it was determined that maximum concentrations were obtained within 24 hours post administration of a therapeutic dose of 5 mg/kg p. o. in sheep. The elimination from the blood resulted in a half-life period of 26 hours. In the cattle the serum levels after 5 mg/kg p. o. responded similary to the sheep; higher doses (7.5 and 10 mg/kg) resulted in curves with somewhat varying parameters (earlier maximum with faster elimination) - the area below the curves, however, depended on the dose. In rabbits the half-life period was 15 hours after treatment with 50 mg/kg p. o., and 21 hours after treatment with 100 mg/kg p. o. These results underline the high effectiveness of small amounts of the compound and point to the short duration of the anthelmintic in the organism. This is important with regard to food laws.
