Toxicity of larger-than-recommended doses of naphthalophos to cattle, sheep, and goats

Although oral doses of 150 mg/kg produced symptoms of poisoning in cattle dose levels of 375 mg/kg were not fatal. No poisoning was seen in cattle treated with 75 mg/kg of naphthalophos and also given coumaphos, trichlorfon or fenthion (at recommended doses) to control Hypoderma infestations. Doses of 150 mg naphthalophos/kg were severely toxic for goats, and one of two goats was fatally poisoned by a dose of 200 mg/kg, 150 mg/kg was safe for sheep (no clinical signs), although 240 mg/kg killed 12 out of 40 ewes.
