Search for Campylobacter subsp. jejuni in fecal material from patients

For the isolation of C. f. jejuni and other enteric pathogens, 2690 samples from sick children were studied. Stains (18) of C. f. jejuni were identified, corresponding it to 6.38% of total pathogens studied and 0.67% of all cases studied. The 18 strains studied were 100% resistant to penicillin, ampicillin, novobiocin, oxacillin and colymycin, while all of them were sensible to erythromycin, streptomycin and nalidixic acid. Higherst percentage of isolation corresponded with the winter season. In not one of the cases studied C. f. jejuni coincided with other pathogen enteric bacterium. Among other enteric pathogen searched in these samples, enteropathogen Escherichia coli prevailed. Neither enterocolitic Yersinia nor enteroinvasive E. coli were isolated.
