Different concentrations of ruelene, haloxon, coumaphos, trichlorphon, dibenylamine, tris (p-aminophenyl) carbonium chloride (pararosaniline chloride), Bayer 9015 (niclofolan), and bithionol were examined for inhibitory effect against F. hepatica cholinesterases (CHE). Bithionol and niclofolan did not inhibit esterase activity. Coumaphos. trichlorphon, pararosaniline chlorine, and haloxon inhibited all CHE activity. Ruelene reversibly inhibited pharyngeal and reproductive-complex CHE and irreversibly inhibited tegumental and neural acetylcholinesterase (ACHE). Dibenzylamine reversibly inhibited all CHE but did not inhibit alkaline phosphatase. Succinic dehydrogenase (SDH) activity was observed in all organs and tissues reported to contain esterases. The SDH was found in the cirrus, cirrus pouch wall, prostate gland, and sperm sac for the first time. Bithionof. niclofolan and hexa-chlorophene all inhibited SDH at all concentrations tested. Dibenzylamine had no inhibitory effect, whereas pararosaniline chloride partially inhibited the SDH-staining reaction.
