Studies on the susceptibiity of Colombian foot- and mouth disease virus strains to temperature (26.degree. C and 37.degree. C) and to the action of inactivating agents such as acetylethyleneimine (AEI) and binaryethyleneimine (BEI), were carried out using inactivation or a thermal stability technique at 47.5.degree. C for 5 min. The F-146S concentration for each strain were determined by the sucrose density gradient method. Susceptibility to breakdown was greater for virus type subtype L (Strain 9489) than for virus O1. (Strain Campos). Type A subtype A24 (Cruzeiro) and A27 (8046) viruses were more resistant to temperature and to the inactivating agents than was both virus strains belonging to the type O1.
