The preparation of modified media for primary isolation of the agent from genital swabs is described. Chocolate medium containing 5 micro g/ml clindamycin, 1 micro g/ml trimethoprim, 5 micro g/ml amphotericin B, and 5% lysed horse blood permitted growth of both streptomycin-resistant and streptomycin-sensitive strains to a level not significantly different from that obtained on a non-selective medium, while inhibiting the growth of swarming microorganisms of Bacillus or Proteus spp.
