The influence of Ca++ nutrition on the resistance of lucerne, Medicago sativa, to Ditylenchus dipsaci was determined. Susceptible 'Atlantic' and resistant 'Lahontan' lucerne seedlings were grown on sand with a modified Hoagland's solution containing CaCl2 at 0.75, 1.5, 3, 6, or 12 mM per litre and buds were inoculated with 40 active nematodes in a 1% carboxymethylcellulose suspension.
