Multiple phosphoglucomutase (E.C. 2.7.5.1) alleles were found in Coquillettidia crassipes (Wulp) (Mansonia crassipes) and M. uniformis (Theo.) in Malaysia. Of 4 Pgm alleles studied, PgmB and PgmC were common to both species, while PgmA was present only in C. crassipes and PgmD only in M. uniformis. The frequencies in both species accorded well with Hardy-Weinberg expectations. The most frequent allele was that controlling a phenotype with an intermediate electrophoretic mobility, namely PgmB in C. crassipes and PgmC in M. uniformis.
