Females of Aedes albopictus (Skuse), Anopheles atroparvus Van Thiel and Culex pipiens molestus Forsk. were allowed to imbibe blood, warmed or unwarmed, through the skin of white mouse or from the living animal, and those of the last 2 species fed also on warmed blood through chicken-skin. Aedes albopictus fed more readily than the others, and 26% of the examples of this species imbibed unwarmed blood, as compared with 1% of those of Anopheles atroparvus and none of those of C. p. molestus. When the blood was warmed, the percentage of females that fed increased, but those of the last 2 species imbibed blood through the mouse-skin membrane very reluctantly. Females of C. p. molestus fed as little on a live mouse as on blood through a mouse-skin membrane. The use of chicken-skin membrane with warmed blood led to a significant increase in the proportion of individuals of A. atroparvus and C. p. molestus that fed.
