Effectiveness of antibiotic rifampicin was studied in M. avium infection of rabbits. The rabbits were first treated with 23 s.c. injections of CCl4 and later subsequently challenged with M. avium Kirschberg (TMC 801) and treated with rifampicin (9 days). Several parameters of study particularly the mean survival time revealed the effectiveness of rifampicin against this infection in rabbits.
