Blood lipid composition characteristics in men under 50 who had a myocardial infarct

Blood lipid composition was studied in 154 male patients at the age under 50 with a history of myocardial infarction, who did not receive hypolipidemic therapy. Considerable lability of blood lipid composition was noted in the period of 4-12 mo. after acute myocardial infarction; in the late periods after myocardial infarction the blood lipid spectrum is characterized by greater stability. Among the patients with stable blood lipid composition, hyperlipoproteinemia was not observed in 17.1%, type IIa was revealed in 25.7% and type IV in 14.3% of patients. A low cholesterol level of .alpha.-lipoproteins was found in most patients, independently of the presence or absence of hypolipoproteinemia. Clinico-biochemical correlations permitted revealing the connection between the severity of the course of ischemic heart disease and the degree of changes of the blood lipid spectrum.
