At Memphis Zoo, Tennessee, USA, histomoniasis (due to Histomonas meleagridis) was the main cause of death of a Penelope pileata and 4 Leptoptilos crumeniferus and was an incidental finding in a Spizaetus tyrannus. All these birds were housed outside, in contact with wild birds.
