Pasteurella multocida infection was demonstrated in 11 of 57 wild birds that died at two bird hospitals. Seven of these 11 had been bitten by cats, dogs or rats. Of 1234 cases of P. multocida infection in man, most were associated with dog and cat bites. It is suggested that antibiotic therapy might save a proportion of birds that have been bitten.
