Pox in wild birds

In Norway, avian pox was first diagnosed in 1969. It occurred, apparently in epidemic form, among terrestrial wild birds, particularly the Paridae family, during autumn and winter in S and SE Norway. Birds received at the laboratory included Parus major, Passer domesticus, Columba palumbus and Pica pica. Strains of virus were isolated but they have not been classified.
