Two new species of coccidia are described from oocysts found in the faeces of passeriform birds in Czechoslovakia. Caryospora jiroveci n.sp. from Erithacus rubecula differs from the only other species of the genus described from passeriforms, C. gloriae from Ptiloxena atroviolacea (=Dives atroviolaceus) in Cuba, in having spherical rather than oval oocysts which are of smaller size (average diameter 19 to 22 mu m compared to 32 to 28 mu m). Eimeria depuytoraci n.sp. from Sylvia curraca is the first member of the genus found in birds of the family Sylviidae. It has spherical or oval oocysts measuring 13 to 14 (spherical) or 17 to 19 (oval) X 12 to 17 mu m. The 5 other species of Eimeria described from passeriforms have larger oocysts and sporocysts with a distinct Stieda body. E. roscoviensis is differentiated further from E. depuytoraci by having a pyriform shape and a "pseudomicropyle" on the attenuated pole.
