The effect of prostacyclin on some hemodynamic parameters in dogs

Prostacyclin (PGI2) inhibits the formation of platelet thrombus and inhibits in vitro aggregation of blood platelets. Inhibitory action of PGI2 on platelet aggregation and its ability to disintegrate new platelet aggregates was also found in man. The following hemodynamic parameters were determined in anesthetized mongrel dogs: heart rate, systolic blood pressure in the ascending aorta, left ventricular pressure at the peak dp/dt, left ventricular end-diastolic pressure, time intervals from Q in ECG to peak dp/dt, maximum rate of left ventricular pressure rise, femoral arterial flow and certain indices of left ventricular contractility. PGI2 even in high doses apparently had no significant effect on hemodynamic parameters in dogs.
