Antitoxin response in tetanus

Serum antitoxin levels were estimated in 43 patients with tetanus and 20 matched controls. Ten surviving patients and all controls received the 1st dose of tetanus toxoid on admission and the 2nd dose 1 mo. later. Antitoxin levels were reestimated in both these groups 1 mo. after immunization. The serial antitoxin levels after 2 doses of tetanus toxoid were evidently lower in patients with tetanus as compared to those in the controls.
