Safety aspects in preparing suspensions of field strains of Brucella abortus for serological identification

When 40 strains of Brucella abortus, obtained from milk and vaginal samples of naturally infected cattle, were heated in a waterbath at 65 deg C, 75 deg C, 80 deg C or 85 deg C for 60-120 minutes, 95% survived 65 deg C for 120 minutes, 55% survived 75 deg C for 120 minutes, 25% survived 80 deg C for 120 minutes and 12.5% survived 85 deg C for 60 minutes. No isolates survived 85 deg C for 75 minutes.
