Sodium methiodal is a contrast medium commonly used during subarachnoid myelography. Clinically occurring concentrations of sodium methiodal displaced bound thiopental from brain homogenate and serum in vitro. Some anesthetic complications during canine myelography may be due to displacement of bound thiopental.
