Intravenous injection of thiopental sodium at 10-15 mg/kg body weight into 6 pregnant Baladi goats resulted in a fall in plasma progesterone and a rise in plasma cortisol during anaesthesia and up to 4 h afterwards. Two goats aborted 1 or 2 weeks after treatment, and with one exception the kids of the other goats were stillborn.
