The anti-arrhythmic effect of L-carnitine in subjects with ischemic cardiopathy

The antiarrhythmic effect of L-carnitine given at the dosage of three 500 mg tablets thrice daily in 2 groups of patients who were never treated with antiarrhythmic drugs. The 1st group (4 subjects) suffered from ventricular extrasystole arrhythmia without a history of past or present heart disease; the 2nd group (6 subjects) had ischemic heart disease. L-Carnitine exerted maximum antiarrhythmic activity in the ischemic subjects but the drug was practically ineffective in the treatment of functional arrhythmias.
