Laboratory studies in Pondicherry, India, showed that the amounts of reducing sugars, aminonitrogen and protein in the thoracic muscles of adults of Culex quinquefasciatus Say (pipiens fatigans Wied.), the major vector of bancroftian filariasis, together with Anopheles stephensi List. and A. subpictus Grassi, which are not important vectors in the area, did not have an important role in the development of microfilariae of Wuchereria bancrofti into infective stage larvae and that the phenol present did not inhibit larval development of the parasite.
