Infective larvae of Wuchereria bancrofti were inoculated subcutaneously into Mongolian gerbils and hamsters. Developing worms were recovered from 15% of 349 gerbils given a Jakarta strain and 19% of 293 given a Kinmen strain, mostly within 30 days of inoculation. The worms were usually recovered from the testes, pelt and carcass, and heart and lungs. One adult male worm was recovered from the lung of a gerbil after 92 days. Similar results were obtained with hamsters. The injection of antithymocyte sera before and after infection tended to increase somewhat the number and size of worms which developed.
