Human urine samples of different groups were analyzed for the presence of filarial antigen by immuno-radiometric assay (IRMA) using 125I-Rabbit IgG antibodies to Brugia malayi antigen. Six of 10 microfilaremia and 1 of 5 clinical filariasis had detectable antigen, while none of the endemic and non-endemic normals (n = 12) were positive. The effect of heat-acid treatment on the detectability of antigen in the urine and serum was explored. Heat-acid treatment in general did not reduce the level of filarial antigen in the urine sample while there was a measurable reduction in the antigen levels in the sera.
