Absorption, distribution & excretion of centperazine in male rats

Centperazine [1-ethyl-6-methyl-2-oxoperhydro (1, 2,-C) piperazinopyrimidine], a potential antifilarial compound, is rapidly absorbed following an oral administration of 25 mg/kg dose through the intestine and distributed in all the tissues. Peak level in plasma is attained by the drug after 20 min of its administration and after 10 h it almost disappears from the circulation. Total urinary excretion in 24 h accounts for 14-17% of the given dose. This suggests that centperazine may be excreted via other route(s) and/or as metabolite(s) which cannot be detected by the assay procedure employed.
