The described microplate enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was tested in a blind trial using 163 serum samples previously tested by an IBR virus microneutralization test (NT). All 58 samples with a titre of more than 1:2 in the NT gave an optical density above 0.15 in the ELISA. Three of 105 samples negative in the NT gave low positive readings. All NT-positive samples could be identified visually in the ELISA. In comparative studies of the rise in neutralization and ELISA titres, all samples with positive neutralization titres were also positive by the ELISA.
