Relapse in malaria

Theories about the cause of relapse in malaria are briefly reviewed and attention is drawn to the discovery of latent sporozoites ("hypnozoites") of Plasmodium cynomolgi in liver parenchymal cells of rhesus monkeys [see Pz 4, 1686]. Hypnozoites may be the stages responsible for latency and/or relapse.
