Arthropods (Siphonaptera, Anoplura, Coleoptera, Acarina) collected from small mammals in Rumania

During surveys carried out in Romania in 1974 and 1978, 7324 arthropods belonging to 94 species of Siphonaptera, Anoplura, Coleoptera and Acarina were collected from 179 small mammals of 20 species. Of the arthropod species, 33 were new to the fauna of Romania, and some little-known species were also taken. New hosts were recorded for many of the arthropods, and free-living mites previously unrecorded or rarely recorded were found on many of the animals. The most diversified arthropod fauna was found on Apodemus tauricus (46 species), Clethrionomys glareolus (35 species) and Microtus arvalis (32 species). An exceptional case of mass infestation of one individual of Talpa europaea by 4484 larvae of Neotrombicula autumnalis (Shaw) was observed; these accounted for more than half the total number of this species collected.
