Literature on the Ixodidae of mammals in Europe, but with particular reference to Poland, is reviewed, taking into consideration their prevalence and their role in disease transmission. These aspects and the relationship to the environment (e.g. population changes, effect of radiation) of ectoparasites (Siphonaptera, Anoplura and Acari) of small mammals were also extensively studied.
