Schizophrenic patients [31] were assigned to 3 different treatment groups (placebo, haloperidol and L-dopa-carbidopa). In the L-dopa-carbidopa treated group, at maximum dosage of 1500 mg/day, 3 periods are described. In the 1st period symptoms became worse during 45 days. The 2nd period lasted 1 mo. and was characterized by clinical adaptation. The 3rd period, with approximately 45 days was characterized by improvement in 5 of the 10 clinical cases. The dopamine receptor sensitivity hypothesis of schizophrenia was discussed.
