Experiments evaluating contact and fumigation effect of Altozar on Ixodes ricinus and I. persulcatus (Ixodidae) eggs and larvae were carried out. Short-term (up to 3 days) and long-term (the entire embryogenesis period) exposures on filter paper treated once caused no visible effects on the development of the eggs. The eggs were insensitive to fumigation. Egg development was inhibited only upon periodical substitution of the treated filters with freshly treated ones throughout the period of embryogenesis and upon the use of high doses of Altozar. Immediately after hatching the larvae were highly sensitive both to the contact and fumigation effect of Altozar. With frequent changes of filters treated with high doses of Altozar throughout the embryogenesis period a deferred action was observed, i.e., larval death not directly treated with Altozar. Egg pathology is described. The response of ixodid ticks to the juvenile hormone analog as compared with insects, is described.
