The susceptibility to DDT of unfed females of Ixodes persulcatus Schulze, Dermacentor silvarum Olen. and Haemaphysalis concinna Koch collected in the Amurskaya region of the Soviet Union in 1970-72 varied from year to year and rose towards the end of the active season. LD50's ranged from 0.00066 to 0.004 mu g/mg body weight for unfed females of I. persulcatus, from 0.0019 to 0.0093 for those of H. concinna and from 0.0016 to 0.11 for those of D. silvarum. The symptoms of six stages of increasing toxicity are listed. Ticks that were unable to move invariably died. Unfed females of I. persulcatus and H. concinna that were treated with lethal amounts of DDT (0.005 and 0.05%, respectively) engorged on rabbits survived and reproduced normally.
