Synthetic analogs [51] of amphenone were evaluated for probable antiprogestational activity against progesterone-induced deciduoma formation in the uterus of immature rats. Of these, 5 compounds exhibited potentiality. Only 2 of the active compounds inhibited (partially) glandular proliferation of the uterine endometrium in immature rabbits (Clauberg assay) and prevented implantation by more than 50% in mated hamsters. None of the active compounds possessed estrogenic/antiestrogenic activities. These results highlight the dissimilarity of antiprogestational activity in different bioassays.
