The crystal structure of a set of morphine-like analgesics was established. Eight paramaters were defined from the crystallographic coordinates to determine the distance between the N atom and the background of 21 analgesics [morphine, codeine, nalbuphine, oxymorphone, naloxone, cyclazocine, allylazocine, pethidine, .alpha.-prodine, .alpha.-allylprodine, .beta.-allylprodine, .gamma.-promedol, phenylmorphane, methadone, methadol, acetylmethadol, isomethadone, normethadone, dextromoramide, dextropropoxyphene and propionanilide] which have the phenylpropylamine group. The calculation of these parameters displays the shifts of the N atom, and indicates that the studied compounds distribute themselves in 4 distinct populations which limit a spherical emptiness.
