Mother attitude toward breast feeding

The 210 women attending well-baby clinic in Thailand completed a 2-part questionnaire comprising general information on age, home town, education, occupation, economic status and attitude rating scale whereby mothers gave their personal views on each statement. All were in favour of breast feeding. There was no significant difference between the mother's attitude score in relation to home town, education, occupation and economic status, but there was a significant difference between women over 35 years old and those 15 to 24 years old; the older mothers gave the higher score. Encouragement to breast feed from the hospital staff, with whom all mothers come into contact, seemed to have a favourable influence.
