Ascaridia platyceri n.sp., a new species of nematode from parrots

A new species of bird parasitic nematode, A. platyceri is described from the small intestine of Platycerus eximius, as well as 8 other species of Psittacidae P. elegans, Agapornis taranta, Cyanorhamphus auriceps, Enicognathus ferrugineus, Neopsephotus bourkii, Nymphicus hollandicus, Polytelis anthopeplus and Psephotus haematonotus maintained in zoological gardens and private holdings in East Germany. The new species differs from the 3 spp. of Ascaridia known from parrots, mainly in the shape of the anterior border of the lips, as well as in the number and position of the caudal papillae in the male.
