In intact and adrenalectomized rats the local flow effects of 4 adrenocortical preparations were studied with the help of the tissue uptake of 86Rb as follows: cortisol (5 mg i.m. daily) prednisone (0.01% in the diet), deoxycorticosterone acetate [DOCA, 1 mg i. m. daily) and 9 .alpha.-fluorohydrocortisone (9 .alpha.-FF, 0.0001% with diet). The intact rats received injection preparations for 7 days and peroral preparations for 21 days before the experiments; the adrenalectomized rats received preparations (for 6 to 10 days before the experiment) always from the operation up to the experiment. The doses, as related to the body wt, corresponded to the doses used in human applications increased by factors of about 10-20. In 2 experiments (A, B) only the 86Rb uptake in non-narcotized rats was determined; in the 3rd experiment C the total and local flow values were found by simultaneously determining the 86Rb uptake, cardiac output, heart rate and blood pressure in the rats narcotized with pentobarbital. When evaluating the local circulation changes, the values of the 86Rb uptake were considered as a relative indicator non-affected by simultaneous changes of the cardiac output.
