Diphenylamine reaction in gastric juice was investigated before and after histamine stimulus in 45 patients with atrophic gastritis or cancer of the stomach (group AC), and 99 patients without these diagnoses (group ND). Five extinction values obtained in each investigated subject were used as input data for 1 of the methods of pattern recognition, adaptive linear neuron. On the basis of its output signal, represented by 1 value for each investigated subject, 35 patients of group AC, and 77 of group ND were classified correctly. The cause of incorrect diagnosis was scirrhus of the stomach in group AC and gastric ulcer in group ND. The method of computer classification used was compared to discriminatory analysis.
