Addition of a low concentration of sodium azide completely stops color development in a peroxidase-labeled enzyme immunoassay using 2,2'-azino-di(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) as substrate. Whereas high concentrations of azide cause a decrease in the color intensity, the low concentrations used here have no significant affect on the color.
