Detection of a new species of mermithid, Culicimermis culicivora sp. n., in Aedes communis de Geer mosquitoes in the Buryat ASSR

During a biological study of Aedes in the Buryat ASSR a mermithid was found in a female A. communis and 3 further specimens were found swimming among dead, newly-hatched mosquitoes. These specimens are said to have been identified by I.A. Rubtsov as Culicimermis culicivora n.sp. but are not here described. Mermithid nematodes of a new species, Culicimermis culicivora sp.n., were found infesting females of Aedes communis (Deg.) from a population breeding in the valley of the mountain river Tyi, which flows into Lake Baikal. The breeding place is described.
