The clinical signs, pathology, diagnosis and treatment of 'l'acces pernicieux', an hyperacute form of malaria due solely to Plasmodium falciparum and occurring in a subject without any specific immunity, are described. The syndrome is fatal in a few hours and requires immediate venous infusion of quinine.
