Relationships between acid and alkaline phosphatase and their isoenzymes were studied in samples of seminal plasma from normal bulls. The enzyme activities were assessed both by a modification of Bodansky's method (release of organic phosphorus from beta-glycerophosphate) and by Bessey's method (liberation of nitrophenol from p-nitrophenylphosphate). The alkaline/acid phosphatase ratio was 1.0:0.9 by the first method, and 0.86:1.0 by the second. Both disc electrophoresis on polyacrylamide gel and starch gel electrophoresis distinguished two isoenzymes of the alkaline phosphatase, and three of the acid phosphatase.
