In the Mbulu district of Tanzania, 11 of 23 members of the Iraqur tribe who ate the flesh of a wild pig (Potamochoerus porcus or Phacochoerus aethiopicus) became infected with Trichinella spiralis and 2 of them died. The cases are described in detail. This is the first report of human trichinelliasis in Tanzania and the strain involved appears to be similar to that in Kenya and different from the European strain.
