Toxocara canis and the disposal of faeces

In reply to a previous correspondent, it is pointed out that the fertile eggs passed in female Toxocara canis after treatment of dogs represent only a proportion of the daily output. Even if the worms are not collected and destroyed the eggs they contain are much less significant as a source of infection than those continuously passed by untreated animals. Moreover, when voided within intact worms the eggs are not infective.
