In 2 series of chronic experiments on 37 rabbits electrical stimulation of the main structures of the posterior hypothalamus (posterior hypothalamic nucleus, posteriolateral area, nuclei of mammillary complex) intensified the desynchronized activity and electrical destruction of the same structures intensified the synchronized activity in the motor cortex. The ascending functional effects of the hypothalamus posteriolateral area and posterior hypothalamic nucleus on the cortex motor area are apparently more pronounced than such effects from nuclei of the mammillary complex.
