Among 170 Africans attending diabetic clinic there was a lower incidence of hypertriglyceridaemia and hypercholesterolaemia than among white diabetics in Johannesburg. There was inadequate health education for African diabetics and reliance on oral hypoglycaemics rather than diet treatment. Health educators of the patient's own race are needed.
